Make Great Vinaigrette
Are you like me and enjoying the spring weather? I LOVE salad’s anytime of the year, but springtime they are a must at our house. We want to start eating lighter and get out to enjoy the nice, warmer weather. Start eating healthier to get back into those swimming suits. Right?
Make great vinaigrette and adding what’s in season is fun way to bring flavor and beauty to your table. The dressing or vinaigrette makes your salad pop. The dressing or vinaigrette is like the frosting on a cake. To make great vinaigrette it’s so easy and takes minutes.
It’s easy to make any salad combination pop with flavor and originality. It’s a tasty way to make every salad different, so you’re not stuck with having the same dressing every time.
Here are some tips to remember when making a vinaigrette.
Just remember this ratio sweet to sour is 3 parts sweet to 1 part sour. If your fruit or citrus is sweet use less honey. If it’s on the tart side use more.
Juice from fruit is a nice ingredient to add to any vinaigrette. It’s usually used to complement and enhance the vinegar, rather than replacing it. A simple dressing of olive oil and lemon juice drizzled over a fresh spring or summer salad is hard to beat. Lemon also brings out the flavors of any fruit salad.
Honey is also a great addition to a vinaigrette, because it adds sweetness, which is a good way to counterbalance the tartness from your vinegar or citrus. It also adds herb like flavors and aromas. I like using honey as it is a natural sugar and a lot better for you than artificial sweeteners.
Always add your sweet and sour parts together and then add half that much oil. So if you have 1 cup of liquid (citrus, vinegar, honey) use 1/2 cup olive oil.
Keep these in mind and you can make any combination of salad and vinaigrette for a healthy dinner.
Extra dressing can be stored in refrigerator for a couple of weeks.
